Usability expands to include larger patterns of psychology and human behavior, which is then (ideally) incorporated into an actual thing. Process, hardware, software-whatever thing thing that can produce more productivity. A higher-level analysis of stuff. Some companies and brands (and people) just don't get it.
And sometimes, it's hard to argue for it. It turns into absurdist theater. Like this thread.
